The Chapa Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society, which appears on the charter granted by the National Honor Society, duly signed by the members of the National Council. The purpose of this chapter shall be to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of Chapa Middle School.
How Parents Can Support Chapa NJHS Members
Once your son or daughter is inducted into the Honor Society, you can help support and reinforce the value of membership by considering some of the following. As a first step, be sure you know that the chapter adviser for your school is Ms. Prindible and she can be reached at prindiblet@g. hayscisd.net.
You can help by:
1. Volunteering in support of the chapter’s activities and the school. Every chapter is required to perform an annual service project – ask the chapter adviser how you can help.
2. Reinforce the values of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship (the essential elements of Honor Society membership) in the home.
3. Stay informed about chapter and school activities by talking with your student regularly and reading the newsletters sent home from school or visiting the school’s Web site at: http://www.hayscisd.net/Chapa.cfm
4. Support your local parent/teacher organization (PTA). You’re not in this game alone – take advantage of this valuable support network by working together with them.
5. Support your school in general, and reinforce the value placed on education as a key to success now and for the rest of one’s life. Help your child make the most of his or her years in school.
6. Make sure to make arrangements for your child to be at each NJHS Meeting. They are only once a month, so a lot of information is provided at every meeting for upcoming activities. (Schedule is attached.)
7. Your child must earn 20 community service hours in order to continue in NJHS and to be acknowledged at the end of the year awards ceremony. Hours must be turned in by the beginning of May in order to participate in the year end celebration. Places and events to participate in for these community service hours will be discussed at every meeting and are provided on signup genius .
8. There is a $15 annual membership fee, which includes a T shirt. We will also need to provide snacks for each meeting. We have approximately 115 active members to provide these snacks for. It is best if two or more parents work together to supply the snacks for a single meeting, provide the cash donation (which you can turn into Ms. Torres designated for NJHS), or similar collaboration. Please let us know which meeting you will be helping with snacks on and what type of snacks or if you will just be providing cash donation toward such. Let us know if you have any concerns, questions, or feedback about the Chapa Chapter of NJHS.
